Heavy Rain Exposes Gaza’s Genocide Scars as Bodies Recovered from Collapsed Buildings

Gaza Herald – Gaza authorities said that winter storms are worsening the aftermath of Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip, as Palestinian Civil Defense teams struggle to recover victims’ bodies from buildings shattered by Israeli bombardment.

Heavy rains and strong winds have caused war-damaged structures to collapse, killing civilians and trapping others under rubble. Civil Defense teams confirmed the recovery of at least 20 Palestinians who were killed during a multi-story building bombing in 2023, where dozens of civilians had sought shelter.

Officials warn that thousands more bodies remain buried beneath destroyed homes across Gaza, while rescue operations are crippled by the Israeli occupation’s continued ban on heavy machinery and fuel, a violation of the ceasefire terms.

The storms have also flooded displacement camps, washing away tents and exposing families, already displaced by genocide, to cold, sewage, and hunger. Aid agencies said nearly the entire population remains forcibly displaced with no safe shelter.

Palestinian authorities stress that these deaths are not the result of weather alone, but the direct outcome of Israel’s genocidal war, which left homes structurally unsafe and denied Gaza the equipment needed to rescue victims and bury the killed with dignity.
