New Rehabilitation Hospital Opens in Khan Younis Amid Gaza’s Ongoing Health Collapse

Gaza Herald – The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has opened a new 100-bed rehabilitation hospital in Khan Younis, aiming to treat the soaring number of Palestinians suffering from war-related injuries, disabilities, and long-term medical needs caused by Israel’s ongoing genocide. The facility is designed to support patients with mobility impairments and others requiring specialized rehabilitative care.

The World Health Organization (WHO) attended the launch, led by representative Luca Pezzosi, expressing readiness to expand support for rehabilitation services in Gaza, a sector barely functioning after two years of bombardment and infrastructure destruction.

PRCS Executive Director Dr. Haidar al-Qudra said the hospital was urgently needed as Gaza’s remaining medical facilities struggle under overwhelming pressure. He noted the project was approved by PRCS President Dr. Younis al-Khatib in response to the critical shortage of rehabilitation centers across the Strip.

The hospital was fully funded by the Palestinian Red Crescent, with WHO providing medical equipment, furniture, and additional beds. WHO and PRCS headquarters also supplied assistive devices to help patients continue their recovery after discharge.

The new center represents a significant addition to Gaza’s collapsing health system, a rare expansion of care in a territory where most hospitals have been destroyed or severely damaged, and where tens of thousands require long-term rehabilitation after two years of relentless attacks.
