Gaza Herald- The Special Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Palestine, Jonathan Fitch, described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, while a UN Special Rapporteur warned of a looming thirst crisis threatening the Strip.
Fitch confirmed, “The situation in Gaza is disastrous, severely affecting people who are living under poor conditions.”
Fitch stated that despite the ceasefire, life remains extremely difficult for children in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate humanitarian aid.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Water and Sanitation warned of a looming humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with nearly 90% of water facilities destroyed since the start of the assault.
The occupation has used water deprivation against Gaza by targeting infrastructure and blocking fuel for wells and desalination plants, creating a serious risk of contaminated drinking water, cholera, and other deadly diseases for thousands of families.
He noted that the ceasefire has not ended the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the humanitarian crisis is worsening, with the territory facing a severe water shortage due to the war and blockade.
On October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation committed a genocide in Gaza, involving killings, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
The genocide resulted in over 238,000 dead and injured, mostly children and women, more than 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, widespread famine, and extensive destruction.
