Gaza Herald_ Despite weeks having passed since the ceasefire took effect, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis continues to spiral. Markets across the enclave remain barren of essential goods, underscoring Israel’s ongoing siege that strangles every aspect of civilian life.
From Deir al-Balah’s central market, Gaza correspondent Abdullah Maqdad describes the grim reality: while stalls display cleaning products and a few luxury items, staples like meat, eggs, and grains are nowhere to be found.
“I haven’t seen eggs in six months,” one resident lamented. “There’s nothing here, just things no one needs to survive.”
According to Gaza’s government media office, Israel continues to tightly restrict humanitarian and commercial convoys, allowing only a fraction of supplies to enter. Of the 15,600 trucks expected to reach the enclave since October 10, when the truce began, barely 4,453 were permitted entry.
Worse still, Israel bans more than 350 essential food items, including baby formula, medical nutrition, and staples for the sick and wounded, while allowing low-value goods with minimal nutritional benefit.
As Palestinians struggle to rebuild their lives amid ruins, they face hunger, unemployment, and the slow suffocation of Israel’s deliberate blockade.
The war may have paused, but Gaza’s starvation continues, this time not with bombs, but with empty shelves and sealed borders.
