Survival Over Safety: Contaminated Water Becomes Gaza’s Only Option

Gaza Herald_ After two years of relentless Israeli bombardment that has devastated essential infrastructure, Palestinians are increasingly fearful that their drinking water is contaminated.

People know that the water they consume, the air they breathe, and even the food available to them might be unsafe. But when daily life revolves around the struggle to survive ,to simply secure water and a piece of bread ,concerns about safety become secondary.

With no alternatives, Palestinians are left drinking polluted water. There is no privilege of avoiding danger. Even with entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble and widespread environmental hazards, almost no systematic effort is underway to remove unexploded ordnance or address contamination.

This isn’t due to a lack of will from municipal workers. It stems from the absence of equipment and heavy machinery. Local authorities fight an uphill battle each day to clear rubble, remove waste from shattered streets, and reopen roads choked by debris.
