UN Report: Israel’s Gaza Genocide Fueled by Complicity of 60 Countries

Gaza Herald- A newly released United Nations report has sent shockwaves across the international community, revealing that Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza has been sustained through the active complicity of more than 60 countries. The report, authored by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, details how diplomatic, military, economic, and humanitarian support from mostly Western and European states has enabled Israel’s campaign of destruction and mass suffering against the Palestinian people.

According to the report, the genocide constitutes a “collective crime, sustained by the complicity of influential Third States that have enabled Israel’s longstanding violations of international law.” Albanese highlights that the atrocities in Gaza have been carried out under colonial narratives that continue to dehumanize Palestinians while granting Israel unchecked legitimacy under the guise of “self-defense.”

Western Powers’ Role in Sustaining the Atrocities

Albanese’s findings outline how the United States, along with key allies such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Australia, and others, have used diplomatic power, including repeated UN Security Council vetoes, to block ceasefire resolutions and shield Israel from accountability. The report criticizes Western media and political discourse for echoing Israeli narratives that blur the distinction between resistance fighters and civilians, justifying Israel’s assaults through racist colonial frameworks.

Meanwhile, Arab and Muslim states are faulted for failing to take “decisive action.” Despite public statements of solidarity, some regional governments maintained economic and energy relations with Israel and allowed land routes that circumvented regional pressure. Egypt, for instance, kept the Rafah crossing under strict control, limiting the flow of humanitarian aid.

Weapons, Surveillance, and Military Cooperation
The report exposes that, despite international calls for an arms embargo dating back to 1976, countries such as the US, Germany, and Italy remained among the top suppliers of weaponry to Israel. The US alone provides $3.3 billion annually in military funding, in addition to $500 million for missile defense systems.

The UK’s intelligence-sharing and surveillance flights over Gaza further exemplify how allied states have contributed to Israel’s war campaign. Albanese also identified 26 countries that supplied weapons or parts for the F-35 fighter jet program, one of the main tools used to bomb Gaza , including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, and Australia. Some countries, like Spain and Slovenia, have taken limited steps by canceling arms contracts, but the report notes that most continue to trade in Israeli-tested military technology.

Economic Partnerships that Fuel Oppression

On the economic front, the report underscores that ongoing trade relationships continue to legitimize Israel’s apartheid regime. The European Union remains Israel’s largest trading partner, accounting for nearly one-third of its trade despite the genocide. Countries like Germany, Italy, and Greece have even expanded trade relations with Israel, while a few Arab states under the Abraham Accords have followed suit.

Turkey stands out as the only country to have suspended trade with Israel in 2024, though Albanese notes that indirect trade still persisted through third-party routes.

Targeting UNRWA and Manipulating Humanitarian Aid

The report also highlights how countries compounded the crisis by cutting off aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) after Israel accused it of links to Hamas — accusations made without evidence. Eighteen states suspended funding immediately, including major donors like the US, UK, and Canada. Albanese condemned this as a reckless act that left millions of Palestinians without life-saving assistance.

Even as famine spread across Gaza, Western governments prioritized political alignment with Israel over humanitarian obligations. Some attempted to “parachute aid” into the Strip — a gesture Albanese described as dangerous, performative, and grossly insufficient.

A Global Moral Collapse

Albanese concludes that Israel’s genocide in Gaza is not an isolated act of violence but the culmination of “colonial and racial-capitalist practices that should have long been consigned to history.” She asserts that without global complicity, Israel could not have maintained its campaign of destruction, starvation, and mass displacement for two consecutive years.

“The horrors of the past two years are not an aberration,” Albanese wrote, “but the result of decades of international complicity. Even as the genocidal violence became visible, Western and allied states continued to provide Israel with military, diplomatic, economic, and ideological support — even as it weaponized famine and humanitarian aid.”

Her report serves as a stark indictment of the international order, exposing not only Israel’s crimes but the global systems that sustain them.
