GazaHerald – The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza declared that the Strip has been devastated almost beyond recognition, with 90 percent of its structures destroyed after two years of Israel’s war. The office described the destruction as “a genocide in progress” that continues to uproot lives and wipe out the foundations of society.
Its anniversary report highlighted the collapse of health services, noting the destruction of 38 hospitals, 96 health centers, and 197 ambulances. A total of 788 health facilities and installations were targeted, while Israeli forces seized control of roughly 80 percent of Gaza through bombardments and ground incursions.
The scale of Israeli bombardment has been unprecedented: more than 200,000 tons of explosives were dropped on Gaza. Education has been devastated; 95 percent of schools have sustained damage, 165 university and school buildings have been obliterated, and thousands in the education community have been killed, including 13,500 students, 830 teachers, and 193 academics.
The war’s human toll is staggering. At least 76,639 people are dead or missing, among them 9,500 whose whereabouts remain unknown. Injuries stand at 169,583, including 4,800 amputees and 1,200 paralyzed survivors.
Entire family lines have been eradicated, with 2,700 families erased from civil records. More than 12,000 miscarriages were documented due to the collapse of medical care and food systems, and 460 deaths have been linked to starvation and malnutrition.
Critical infrastructure has also been dismantled: 725 wells were destroyed along with 5,080 kilometers of power lines, 700,000 meters of water and sewage pipes, and three million meters of roadways. Government offices, sports arenas, and cultural landmarks, 247, 292, and 208, respectively, were reduced to rubble.
Gaza’s agriculture has been almost entirely annihilated. Ninety-four percent of farmland is gone, fish stocks are depleted, and vegetable production has collapsed from 405,000 tons to just 28,000 tons annually.
The office estimated the total financial losses at $70 billion, including $28 billion in housing, $5 billion in health, $4 billion in education, $4.5 billion in trade, and $2.8 billion in agriculture. Essential services such as electricity and communications have also suffered massive destruction.
“These statistics make clear the depth of Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe,” the statement warned, calling on the global community to act urgently to halt “the Israeli genocide being carried out against the Palestinian people.”
