Gaza Herald – The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), currently docked at Sidi Bou Said port in Tunisia, confirmed that its main ship, the Family Boat, was struck by a drone in a deliberate attack, causing a fire on board. All passengers and crew are reported safe.
CCTV footage shows a flaming projectile descending onto the vessel, while activists aboard reacted in shock as the object impacted the ship. Experts examining the recordings note that life vests on board, made of fire-resistant or flame-retardant materials, prevented the fire from spreading, ruling out a catastrophic onboard blaze.
Israeli reconnaissance aircraft have been actively monitoring Mediterranean routes since September 2, from the Spanish coast near Barcelona to the Sicilian Strait, suggesting a coordinated aerial operation. Analysts believe the drone strike was intended as an act of intimidation against the flotilla rather than to inflict mass casualties.
Despite the assault, the GSF reiterated its determination to continue sailing toward Gaza’s shores. Organizers are also preparing for possible reinforcement from allied vessels from Greece, Turkey, and Egypt, with significant Egyptian participation reported.
The flotilla’s movement comes amid growing international attention, highlighting the high-stakes humanitarian mission of breaking Gaza’s blockade. Authorities in Tunisia initially denied any strike, but video evidence confirms the attack and has been cited by the GSF in condemning Israel’s attempt to intimidate participants.
