Gaza Herald- The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) said that the killing of Mohammed Al-Wahidi, Director of Public Relations for the Egyptian Committee in the Gaza Strip, demonstrates that Israel’s genocide extends even to moments of joy and those who make them possible.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the center said it views with grave concern the Israeli attack on the civilian vehicle carrying Al-Wahidi, which killed him along with other civilians.
The center noted that the attack coincided with the Egypt–Argentina World Cup match, pointing out that Al-Wahidi had been overseeing preparations for public viewing areas where residents could gather to watch the game.
It said the incident raises serious concerns that Israel is not only killing Palestinians but also systematically targeting any remaining space for normal life or collective joy by attacking individuals and initiatives that offer a limited respite for a population living under siege. According to the centre, this forms part of a broader policy aimed at dismantling civilian life and subjecting the population to a permanent state of fear and deprivation.
PCHR said Israeli forces continue to kill Palestinian civilians across the Gaza Strip through repeated drone and air strikes, as well as direct fire targeting civilian gatherings and displacement tents. It described the attacks as part of an ongoing pattern that has claimed growing numbers of civilian lives, including children and displaced people, while destroying what remains of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
According to the center’s documentation, Israeli forces continue to target civilians while they are travelling, inside their homes, in displacement tents, and in public spaces. It also accused Israeli forces of killing humanitarian workers and continuing to target police officers, describing this as evidence of a systematic policy of expanding the scope of killings and spreading terror among the civilian population.
The center said these actions reflect Israel’s determination to pursue policies aimed at destroying the foundations of life in Gaza and forcing Palestinians to live under conditions incompatible with survival through widespread killing, large-scale destruction, and repeated forced displacement. It said these practices reinforce the material elements of the crime of genocide and demonstrate that the attacks extend beyond individuals to target the Palestinian presence in Gaza as a whole.
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights renewed its call on the international community to take urgent action to halt the ongoing mass killing of Palestinian civilians, ensure international protection for the population, hold Israeli leaders accountable before international justice, and end the climate of impunity that has enabled these crimes to continue and escalate.
