Over 9,500 Palestinian Prisoners Face Deteriorating Conditions in Israeli Prisons

Gaza Herald – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Information Office has released an updated fact sheet titled “The Conditions of Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Prisons,” highlighting the situation of Palestinian and Arab detainees amid escalating violations inside Israeli detention facilities since the start of the genocide on Gaza.

According to the report, more than 9,500 Palestinian and Arab prisoners are currently being held in Israeli jails and detention centers. The fact sheet states that their living and health conditions have significantly deteriorated due to ongoing restrictive measures and policies imposed by prison authorities.

The report documents worsening suffering among detainees as a result of hunger policies, severe overcrowding inside prison sections, the spread of skin diseases, shortages of hygiene supplies and clothing, and continued medical neglect affecting sick and injured detainees.

It also highlights the escalation in cases of torture and sexual violence against detainees, noting that dozens of such incidents have been documented in recent months.

Furthermore, the fact sheet points to repeated prison raids and crackdowns, expanded use of administrative detention without charge or trial, and increasing restrictions on family visits and detainees’ access to legal representation.

Reviewing conditions in several major prisons, the report concludes that current circumstances reflect a sharp deterioration in detainees’ humanitarian and living conditions. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Information Office called on international and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the reported violations and ensure accountability for those responsible in accordance with international law.
