Israeli Sniper Kills Gaza Girl, Erasing Family’s Sole Survivor

Gaza Herald — Eight-year-old Fatima Hisham al-Bayouk survived two horrific days buried beneath the rubble of her destroyed family home in Khan Younis, only to have her life stolen by an Israeli sniper’s bullet in central Gaza.

Late in 2023, an Israeli airstrike targeted the al-Bayouk residence, slaughtering Fatima’s parents and all seven of her siblings. Pulled alive from the debris by relatives who celebrated her miraculous survival, the young Palestinian girl became the sole remaining connection to her erased family, cared for by her grandmother and uncle in Deir al-Balah.

On Saturday evening, October 25, 2026, that fragile sanctuary was permanently shattered. While playing with other children in the al-Mazra’a Street area east of Deir al-Balah, Fatima was directly targeted by Israeli army gunfire. She succumbed to critical gunshot wounds hours later, joining her parents and siblings in death and wiping out the final surviving member of the al-Bayouk bloodline.

Two Days Trapped Beneath Rubble Before Targeted Shooting

Fatima’s uncle, Mohammed Bakr Abu Amra, recalled the harrowing rescue in late 2023 when relatives dug through collapsed concrete with their bare hands to extract the injured child. For nearly three years, Fatima carried severe leg injuries alongside profound trauma, yet her presence offered her extended family a living testament to the loved ones killed in the initial bombardment.
“Fatima was the only survivor among her seven siblings. The occupation army bombed their home and killed everyone, but she remained breathing beneath the rubble for two full days,” Abu Amra said. “We were so happy to have her. We said that Fatima still carried the scent of her mother and siblings.”

Ceasefire Violations and the Systematic Targeting of Palestinian Children

The fatal shooting of Fatima highlights ongoing Israeli military violations of the October 10, 2025 ceasefire agreement across the Gaza Strip. Abu Amra emphasized that the shooting was not an accident or indiscriminate fire, but a direct attack on a defenseless eight-year-old child playing in an open street.

The loss has plunged Fatima’s surviving relatives back into deep mourning, adding to a catastrophic family toll that includes Abu Amra’s brothers, sister, and uncle. Human rights monitors emphasize that Fatima’s death illustrates the daily peril facing Gaza’s orphaned youth, where surviving military strikes offers no protection against ongoing occupation violence, sniper fire, and total displacement.
