Left to Suffer: Israeli Prison Authorities Deny Medical Care, Basic Rights to Gaza Prisoners

Gaza Herald_Palestine’s Asra Media Office issued an urgent warning regarding Gaza prisoners held inside Ganot prison, revealing that they are being subjected to a systematic policy of medical neglect, untreated injuries, withheld vital medication, and rapidly deteriorating health conditions.

The office directly held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these inhumane conditions. It issued an urgent call for international intervention to secure necessary treatment and adequate healthcare for the detainees.

Severe Injuries and Denied Basic Treatment

According to the Asra Media Office, the scale of suffering inside Ganot prison is staggering. One detainee has been forced to endure fractured ribs and a head injury inflicted by the Israeli occupation since October 7, 2023, completely without medical attention. Another detainee, suffering from a broken leg, is being denied even the most basic painkillers to manage his agony.

In addition to physical trauma, detainees face horrific hygiene and living conditions designed to degrade them. Persistent itching and intense pain prevent them from sleeping, while shortages of basic medical treatments and cleaning supplies run rampant. Compounding these degrading measures, detainees are restricted to washing their clothes only once every ten days.

Chronic Illnesses and Catastrophic Weight Loss

The office drew explicit attention to the life-threatening targeting of detainees with chronic conditions. In one harrowing case, a detainee suffering from thalassaemia and high blood pressure was deliberately deprived of his essential medication. As a direct result of this cruel medical neglect, he suffered catastrophic health decline and lost approximately 50 kilograms of body weight.

These compounding violations highlight a pervasive pattern of denial regarding basic healthcare for detainees suffering from severe injuries and chronic illnesses. The Asra Media Office has repeatedly sounded the alarm over the worsening, unlivable conditions faced by Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, noting that calculated medical neglect and the deprivation of treatment are core factors actively destroying their physical and psychological well-being.

The office strongly condemned Israeli prison authorities for systematic assaults and violations that utterly strip detainees of their most fundamental human rights.
