Gaza Herald – The Gaza Health Ministry issued a stark warning on Sunday regarding the severe deterioration of essential laboratory capabilities, describing the situation as an unprecedented collapse that threatens the diagnostic infrastructure for thousands of patients across all medical departments. According to the ministry, medical laboratories are currently facing a catastrophic reality characterized by a critical shortage of fundamental operational requirements.
The ministry stated in an official statement that chemical analysis devices, which serve as the backbone of daily medical care, are severely lacking. It emphasized that the laboratory system suffered a devastating blow resulting in the complete destruction of 52 percent of the total inventory of devices, rendering them entirely out of service.
Furthermore, the ministry highlighted that the remaining operational equipment is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 percent of the functioning machines are described as dilapidated and prone to frequent breakdowns. These units definitively lack necessary spare parts, placing them under constant risk of sudden and total shutdown at any moment.
The health authority stressed the urgent and critical need to introduce modern laboratory devices as an immediate replacement for those destroyed. This intervention is deemed essential to ensure that the healthcare machinery does not come to a complete halt. The ministry warned that continuing this crisis at its current catastrophic levels constitutes more than just a logistical challenge.
According to the ministry, the ongoing situation amounts to a direct deprivation of medical staff from their most vital diagnostic tools. This deprivation has a dangerous and immediate impact on patient lives. The ministry called for an immediate and urgent intervention to bring in new laboratory devices and the required spare parts to save what can still be preserved before the laboratory service ceases permanently.
