Gaza Herald – Severe traffic congestion has gripped the area north of Ramallah following intensified restrictions imposed by Israeli occupation forces at the Atarot and Ein Siniya checkpoints. The measures have effectively paralyzed movement for local residents, leading to significant delays and disruptions in daily transit across the region.
Local sources confirmed that hundreds of families, including women and children, were stranded inside their vehicles for several hours. The bottleneck was particularly acute on the streets of Birzeit town, where long queues of cars stretched over considerable distances due to the stringent procedures enforced at the Atarot checkpoint.
Residents reported facing extreme difficulties in navigating through the area. Many were forced to wait for extended periods within their cars while attempting to pass through the restricted zones. The situation created a gridlock that hindered the free flow of civilian traffic throughout the morning hours.
A similar traffic crisis recurs daily at the Ein Siniya checkpoint, also located north of Ramallah. Occupation authorities frequently close the crossing or implement restrictive protocols, which disrupts citizen movement and compels drivers to endure lengthy waiting times before they can proceed.
These localized disruptions coincide with a broader announcement by occupation authorities declaring a comprehensive closure across the West Bank. The order mandates the shutdown of all crossings starting from Tuesday until Saturday, October 3, 2026. Officials cited the “King’s Feast” holiday as the justification for this widespread restriction on movement.
The combination of specific checkpoint controls and the general regional closure has exacerbated mobility challenges for Palestinians in the northern districts. Commuters continue to face uncertainty regarding travel times as security forces maintain tight control over access points in the vicinity of Ramallah.
