Gaza Herald – A total of 105 patients and companions left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing on Sunday for medical treatment abroad, while another 105 Palestinians returned to the territory, according to Gaza’s Border Crossings Authority.
The authority said the departing group consisted of 45 patients and 60 companions and that the medical evacuation was carried out in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).
The patients require specialized medical treatment that is currently unavailable in Gaza, where the healthcare system remains under severe strain and medical facilities continue to face shortages of essential resources.
In a separate movement through the crossing, the authority said 105 Palestinians returned to the Gaza Strip after previously leaving the territory.
The WHO coordinated with the relevant parties to complete the procedures required for the patients and their companions to travel through the Rafah crossing.
Medical evacuations remain critical amid Gaza’s severe health and humanitarian crisis, with patients suffering from serious illnesses and injuries requiring specialized treatment that cannot be provided inside the territory.
Humanitarian and health organizations have continued to stress the need for sustained access to medical evacuations to ensure critically ill and wounded Palestinians can receive timely treatment abroad while easing pressure on Gaza’s overwhelmed healthcare system.
