Gaza Herald – The World Health Organization (WHO) says it has documented nearly 1,000 Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities across the Gaza Strip since October 2023, highlighting the devastating impact of the genocide on the enclave’s already fragile medical system.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 1,700 others, underscoring the severe toll on patients, healthcare workers, and medical infrastructure.
In a statement posted on X, Tedros warned that insecurity persists in Gaza despite the ceasefire, with civilians continuing to face displacement, inadequate water and sanitation services, malnutrition, disease outbreaks, and limited access to healthcare.
He also revealed that a medical supply warehouse adjacent to Al-Aqsa Hospital was struck over the weekend, damaging the facility and destroying critical medical supplies, including shipments recently delivered by the WHO. The nearby hospital building also sustained damage due to the proximity of the attack.
Tedros reiterated that healthcare facilities must be protected under international humanitarian law, stressing that hospitals and medical infrastructure must never be targeted or used for military purposes.
