Gaza Herald – Hundreds of Palestinians gathered in Al-Mawasi area southwest of Khan Younis to celebrate a mass wedding for 40 brides and grooms with disabilities and war-related injuries, in an event that highlighted resilience and hope amid the ongoing hardships of life in Gaza.
The ceremony was held on Wednesday as part of a social initiative aimed at supporting people with disabilities and injured survivors of the war while helping ease the financial burden of marriage under the current economic conditions.
The event was organized by the Palestinian charity Qanateer Al-Khair Association and funded by donations from the Moroccan people, with the participation of several humanitarian, charitable, and youth organizations that provided financial and material assistance to the newlyweds.
Hazem Suleiman, one of the organizers, explained that the initiative specifically targeted Palestinians living with disabilities and individuals who had sustained serious injuries during the war.
According to Suleiman, the participants included amputees, Palestinians who had lost an eye, and others living with hearing impairments or mobility disabilities, including partial paralysis.
The celebration featured a variety of cultural and artistic performances. A traditional folk troupe performed Palestinian dabke dances accompanied by heritage songs and chants, while the brides wore traditional Palestinian embroidered dresses reflecting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The event also included the distribution of financial grants and in-kind assistance from various charitable initiatives and supporting organizations. In addition to direct financial support, local groups provided housing tents and food parcels to help the couples begin their new lives.
For many participants, the wedding was more than a celebration, it was a moment of joy, dignity, and determination in the face of the profound challenges brought by war, displacement, and disability.
