Gaza Herald – Palestinian journalist Amal Hammad Al-Shamali, a correspondent for Qatar Radio, was killed after an Israeli strike hit tents sheltering displaced civilians in Az-Zawayda in the central Gaza Strip, Palestinian media sources reported.
Al-Shamali, 46, had been documenting the conditions of displaced families when the strike targeted the area where civilians had established temporary shelters.
Her killing came as the world marked International Women’s Day, highlighting the dangers faced by Palestinian women journalists who continue reporting from Gaza despite ongoing bombardment and widespread destruction.
With her death, the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023 has risen to 261, according to Palestinian media institutions.
Journalists across Gaza have continued covering the genocide and its humanitarian consequences while working under constant threat, often reporting from displacement camps, destroyed neighborhoods, and overcrowded hospitals.
Media rights groups say the mounting toll reflects one of the deadliest wars for journalists in modern history, as reporters remain among the civilians exposed to ongoing Israeli military attacks across the Strip.
