Gaza Herald _The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office released testimonies Friday from recently freed detainees describing the harsh conditions Palestinian prisoners face inside Israeli prisons during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the statement, former prisoners Khader Abdul Aal and Alaa Al-Saraj shared accounts of difficult conditions inside Sde Teiman prison and the Negev prison, where detainees face severe restrictions that prevent them from practicing religious rituals normally during the holy month.
Restrictions on Religious Practices
The testimonies indicate that prison authorities impose strict limitations on religious practices. Prisoners are often prevented from performing ablution properly, forcing some to resort to dry ablution before prayer.
Collective prayer and openly reading the Quran are reportedly banned, while constant camera surveillance inside prison sections places detainees under continuous monitoring.
According to the statement, even movements that may appear to be prayer can trigger raids by special prison units. These incursions are often followed by collective punishments, the use of police dogs, and physical assaults against prisoners.
Allegations of Physical and Psychological Abuse
The testimonies also describe various forms of physical and psychological mistreatment. Former prisoners reported the use of electric shocks, forcing detainees to remain seated for long hours in exhausting positions, and continuous searches conducted throughout the day and night.
Prisoners Maintain Resilience
Despite these conditions, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office said the violations have not broken the prisoners’ determination. According to the testimonies, detainees continue to hold on to hope and resilience, while personal prayer and memories remain a spiritual refuge amid what they describe as some of the harshest conditions inside Israeli prisons.
