Gaza Herald – Nearly 90% of schools in Gaza were damaged or destroyed during Israel’s latest genocide on the territory, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The agency said its remaining school buildings had been converted into shelters for displaced civilians as the humanitarian crisis deepened.
UNRWA stated that children were now receiving instruction through temporary learning spaces or digital platforms operated by its teams. The agency also reported that Israeli forces demolished one of its schools in Jabalia using explosives, describing it as the last remaining structure in a complex that once housed six schools.
Since January, eight UNRWA schools have been demolished, the agency said.
Despite the destruction, UNRWA announced it had reopened the Bureij health center on February 7 to resume primary healthcare services in eastern central Gaza.
The agency warned that while a ceasefire was in effect, the war continued in another form through persistent humanitarian suffering, disease outbreaks, and widespread infrastructure collapse.
