MSF Halts Gaza Operations, Triggering Fears of Humanitarian Collapse

Gaza Herald – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned that suspending its operations in Gaza would have catastrophic consequences for civilians, after Israeli authorities ordered the organization to cease its activities and leave the enclave by the end of February.

The decision followed MSF’s refusal to hand over detailed lists of its Palestinian staff, a demand the organization said endangered its teams and was being used as a pretext to obstruct humanitarian aid at a time of extreme need.

MSF’s secretary general said the halt came as Palestinians were facing acute shortages of medical care, stressing that reducing aid now would deepen an already dire crisis not only in Gaza but also in the occupied West Bank.

In 2025 alone, MSF delivered more than 800,000 medical consultations, treated over 100,000 wounded patients, and supplied hundreds of millions of liters of water, while being blocked from bringing in new medical supplies since December.

The organization urged international actors to pressure Israel to lift restrictions on humanitarian work, warning that forcing aid groups to choose between staff safety and lifesaving care risks pushing Gaza toward a full-scale humanitarian breakdown.
