Israel officially announces Rafah crossing to open Sunday

Gaza Herald – Israel confirmed that Rafah crossing will reopen on Sunday, February 1, under a limited, controlled schedule. The opening applies only to the movement of people, not vehicles, and will operate in both directions.

Entry and exit will require coordination with Egyptian authorities, along with prior security approval from Israel for all travelers. Movement will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with the agreed protocols.

A European Union delegation will oversee operations at the crossing, similar to the mechanism implemented in January 2025. EU staff will handle initial checks and stamping of travel documents.

Residents returning from Egypt will be allowed to enter Gaza only if they left during the genocide, and they must pass pre-approved Israeli security clearance. Additional screening will occur under Israeli security supervision within the controlled area.

Authorities emphasized that the limited opening aims to facilitate essential civilian movement while maintaining security oversight, marking the first operational phase of the renewed ceasefire arrangements.
