Netanyahu Rejects Palestinian State in Gaza, Signals Permanent Israeli Control

Gaza Herald _Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest declaration leaves little room for ambiguity: Israel does not intend to end its occupation of Gaza, nor does it recognize the Palestinian right to sovereignty. Framed as a strategic vision for the “day after” the war, Netanyahu’s remarks amount to an open rejection of Palestinian self-determination, replacing any notion of peace with a blueprint for indefinite military domination, political exclusion, and regional escalation.

One day after the Israeli army announced the recovery of the body of captive soldier Ran Gvili from Gaza, Netanyahu and Israel’s coordinator for prisoners and missing persons, Gal Hirsch, issued a joint statement outlining what Netanyahu described as the next phase of the so-called “Trump plan” for Gaza.

Netanyahu claimed that Israel’s strategy for achieving what he called “total victory” rests on three pillars: the return of Israeli captives, the dismantling of Hamas, and the complete demilitarization of Gaza. “Yesterday, we accomplished the first objective,” he said, referring to the retrieval of the soldier’s body, portraying the operation as a strategic breakthrough.

Rejection of Palestinian Statehood

Addressing Gaza’s political future, Netanyahu made an unequivocal declaration: “We will not allow Turkey to enter Gaza, and we will not establish a Palestinian state in Gaza. Israel will maintain full security control over the entire Strip.”

The statement effectively nullifies any prospect of Palestinian governance, sovereignty, or independence in Gaza. By insisting on permanent Israeli security dominance, Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s long-standing policy of military occupation, signaling that Gaza’s future will be shaped not by its people, but by Israeli strategic calculations.

Palestinian analysts and political observers view these remarks as confirmation that Israel’s objectives extend far beyond security concerns, pointing instead to a broader project of territorial control, political fragmentation, and the elimination of any viable Palestinian state.

Iran Threats and Regional Escalation

Netanyahu also escalated his rhetoric toward Iran, claiming that Tehran is attempting to “rehabilitate its regional axis” following setbacks. “We will not allow this,” he said, warning that any Iranian attack on Israel would be met with unprecedented force.

“If Iran makes a grave mistake and attacks Israel, our response will be unlike anything it has experienced before,” Netanyahu declared, fueling concerns that Israel may be preparing the ground for broader regional confrontation to deflect attention from Gaza and consolidate international backing.

Political Messaging and Strategic Timing

Observers note that the timing of Netanyahu’s announcement, immediately after the recovery of the soldier’s body , is politically calculated. The operation has been heavily publicized inside Israel, offering Netanyahu a narrative of success amid mounting international criticism over mass civilian casualties, starvation, and destruction in Gaza.

By linking the retrieval of the body to sweeping political declarations, Netanyahu sought to portray military operations as strategic achievements, while sidelining discussions about ceasefire obligations, humanitarian access, and accountability for war crimes.

A Future Without Palestinian Agency

For Palestinians, Netanyahu’s statements represent yet another affirmation that Israel’s war is not merely about defeating armed groups, but about reshaping Gaza’s political reality by force. Permanent Israeli security control, combined with the explicit rejection of Palestinian statehood, entrenches a system of domination that denies Palestinians their most basic political rights.

Human rights groups warn that such policies amount to the institutionalization of occupation, apartheid, and collective punishment, deepening an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

Netanyahu’s declarations strip away any remaining illusions about Israel’s intentions in Gaza. What is being presented as a post-war vision is, in reality, a blueprint for permanent occupation, political erasure, and endless conflict. By rejecting Palestinian statehood outright and asserting total security control, Israel signals that it seeks not peace, but submission , a path that ensures Gaza’s suffering will continue and that any genuine prospects for justice, stability, and coexistence remain deliberately out of reach.
