Israeli Naval Forces Detain Gaza Fishermen in Fresh Sea Crackdown

Gaza Herald – Israeli naval units detained five Palestinian fishermen off the coasts of Gaza City and Deir al-Balah after opening direct fire on their boats during the early hours of Tuesday. The fishermen were intercepted while working at sea and taken to unknown locations.

Two fishermen were arrested off Gaza City after their vessel was surrounded and targeted with live fire. Hours later, three more were detained by Israeli naval boats in the waters off Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

The arrests occurred amid continued military pressure on Gaza’s coastline, where fishermen face daily risks of gunfire, detention, and confiscation of equipment while attempting to earn a living.

The incident underscored the ongoing assault on Gaza’s fishing sector, as Israeli naval forces maintained a pattern of targeting civilians at sea, further tightening restrictions under the blockade and deepening economic and humanitarian hardship.
