Gaza Herald – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned it may halt all operations in Gaza by March if Israel moves forward with a decision banning its work, alongside 36 other international humanitarian organizations, under new registration rules targeting Palestinian staff.
MSF President Isabelle Defourny said the organization had already begun re-registration procedures months ago but received no response, calling Israel’s move a “blatant overreach” that would strip lifesaving care from a population already pushed to the brink.
The group currently operates in eight hospitals, working with around 800 Palestinian staff and dozens of international doctors, and treated more than 100,000 wounded patients last year, including burn victims and the injured, while ranking among the top providers of childbirth care in Gaza.
Defourny said the decision reflects an attempt to silence witnesses to Israeli military violence, noting that international journalists are barred from Gaza while local reporters and aid workers are killed, more than 500 humanitarian workers, including 15 MSF staff, have been killed since October 2023.
