Gaza Herald – The World Health Organization (WHO) said that only 50 percent of health facilities in Gaza were partially operational, as hospitals faced severe shortages of medicines, medical equipment, and essential supplies needed to sustain lifesaving care.
In a statement, the WHO warned that Gaza’s humanitarian situation had become extremely fragile due to the systematic destruction of infrastructure, the collapse of livelihoods, declining food production, and restrictions on humanitarian aid after two years of Israel’s genocidal war.
The organization cautioned that more than 100,000 children, along with 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women, were at risk of acute malnutrition by April 2026, stressing that 1.6 million people across Gaza were already facing severe food insecurity through mid-April.
The WHO further warned that any renewed Israeli assault or disruption of aid deliveries would push Gaza into full-scale famine within months, calling for the immediate and unconditional entry of medical supplies to save lives.
Gaza’s health sector has continued to deteriorate rapidly due to fuel shortages and Israel’s ongoing obstruction of medical imports, leaving hospitals unable to function at full capacity.
As a result, thousands of surgical procedures were suspended and electricity was cut at several hospitals, pushing the already devastated health system closer to total collapse.
