Gaza Herald – Palestinian Civil Defense warned that a powerful weather system was expected to strike from Friday evening through next Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures that could trigger flooding and dangerous conditions, particularly in vulnerable communities.
The agency cautioned that overcrowded refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, already suffering from crumbling infrastructure, faced heightened risk, stressing that Israeli restrictions on movement, construction, and access to basic services had long prevented upgrades to drainage systems and emergency roads.
Conditions were even more severe in Gaza, where more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians were living in fragile tents made of plastic sheets and aid tarpaulins, offering little protection against storms, as years of Israeli blockade and destruction left families exposed to cold, flooding, and life-threatening weather.
