IPC: Acute Food Insecurity Threatens 1.6 Million in Gaza

Gaza Herald- Approximately 1.6 million people are facing acute food insecurity due to ongoing economic crises and conflicts in the region, according to the Integrated Food Security (IPC) assessment.

The organization emphasized that the crisis threatens Palestinian lives, calling for increased international humanitarian and emergency support.

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh warned that about 320,000 children under five in Gaza face a high risk of acute malnutrition amid worsening humanitarian and economic conditions.

He emphasized the urgent need for food and medical assistance for children and urged the international community to scale up efforts to ease the suffering in Gaza.

UNRWA emphasized that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains critical, with families facing severe hardships due to acute food insecurity and extensive infrastructural destruction.

According to the IPC report, around 1.6 million people in Gaza face severe acute food insecurity, underscoring the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.

Save the Children earlier highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for immediate assistance for affected communities.

The organization called for reopening crossings to deliver aid, focusing on children’s protection during the harsh winter.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor also warned that the blockade and lack of temporary shelters put Gaza residents at severe risk this winter, with many facing collapsing homes or inadequate tents.

The monitor stated that the sheltering ban is part of a systematic effort to forcibly displace residents and urged international action, warning that maintaining it in winter constitutes deliberate killing.
