Heavy Rain Hits Al-Shifa Hospital, Displaced Tents in Gaza

Gaza Herald- Gaza is facing a new humanitarian crisis after severe weather flooded Al-Shifa Hospital and destroyed hundreds of makeshift tents sheltering displaced people, forcing them to seek refuge amid the ruins.

A second severe storm has struck Gaza within a week, following Storm Biron, which killed 14 people and damaged 53,000 tents, worsening civilian suffering amid ongoing genocide.

Rain has flooded critical parts of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the largest hospital in Gaza, halting operations after it had already suffered extensive damage from previous attacks.

Although the Ministry of Health has worked to repair some hospital buildings since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, the scale of destruction and limited resources hinder normal functioning, particularly with the continued obstruction of vital medical supplies and medicines by the occupation.

Mahmoud Bassal, a Civil Defense spokesperson, warned that thousands of partially damaged homes in Gaza are at risk of collapsing from rain and wind, endangering hundreds of thousands of unsheltered Palestinians.

During the first storm, at least 13 buildings collapsed on their residents as they tried to seek shelter from the rain and cold, resulting in deaths and injuries.

Blocking humanitarian aid and shelter violates international law, endangering civilians and breaching the Geneva Conventions.

Gaza’s civilians face compounded suffering from attacks, blockade, and natural disasters, amid slow international accountability.
