Global Human Rights Day Marked by Urgent Calls to Stop Genocide in Gaza

Gaza Herald – Rights groups marked Human Rights Day with urgent appeals to halt the ongoing genocide against Palestinians as conditions in Gaza continue to collapse under the weight of Israeli-occupation destruction.

Economic and social systems have nearly disintegrated, with relentless bombardment wiping out industrial facilities, farmland, historic sites, and tourist areas. Thousands of families now face extreme hunger, with 457 killed from starvation-related causes, mostly children, women, and the elderly.

The educational sector has suffered unprecedented devastation, with schools, universities, and kindergartens flattened. This has triggered a complete shutdown of education for the third consecutive year, leaving an entire generation without access to learning and causing severe declines in academic progress for students and researchers.

Human rights organizations, led by Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, declared that the situation constitutes “a war of genocide”, accusing the Israeli occupation of systematically violating international humanitarian law and ignoring the ceasefire understandings, as well as rulings and resolutions issued by the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the UN Security Council, and the UN General Assembly.

The center called for immediate international intervention to enforce a halt to the genocide, ensure the full withdrawal of Israeli-occupation forces from Gaza, allow freedom of movement for the sick and wounded, and enable large-scale entry of food and medical aid. It further urged global powers to end impunity by prosecuting those responsible for crimes against Palestinian civilians.

Al Mezan also appealed to people worldwide to escalate solidarity campaigns and pressure their governments to uphold legal and moral obligations, stop the genocide, and bring an end to the occupation once and for all.
