Gaza Herald- The Central Bureau of Statistics reported that 42,000 people in Gaza are living with severe life-changing injuries, a number that has doubled over the past year.
On Wednesday, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Health stated that since July 2024 the number of people with disabilities in Gaza has risen to 22,500, including 25% who are children.
The most frequent injuries include complex limb damage, amputations, burns, and spinal or brain trauma, often leading to permanent loss of movement or sensation.
The report recorded over 5,000 amputations, around 75% affecting the lower limbs, alongside thousands of other severe injuries to the spine, brain, and limbs.
The Ministry emphasized that thousands of injured people and their families are enduring severe humanitarian suffering, highlighting the urgent need for rehabilitation and psychosocial support services.
According to the Ministry, rehabilitation services have declined by 62% due to widespread destruction, shortages of medical equipment, and the loss of over 1,700 healthcare workers, including 42 therapy specialists.
It called on international organizations to urgently focus on amputee patients in Gaza and to improve access to specialized care and rehabilitation services.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. and European support, has carried out mass atrocities in Gaza, including killings, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arrests, defying international appeals and court orders.
The crisis has caused over 240,000 casualties, more than 11,000 missing, massive displacement, widespread famine, and near-total destruction of Gaza’s cities and regions.
