Israel Destroys Gaza’s Fishing Fleet, Leaving 97% of Fishermen Without Work

Gaza Herald – Gaza’s Fishermen’s Committees said Israel has destroyed more than 1,950 fishing boats during its ongoing genocide, leaving 97% of Palestinian fishermen without work for over two years and exposing them to daily assaults by Israeli naval forces.

The committee said fishermen are routinely shot at, chased, and stripped of their nets and equipment, making even minimal access to the sea impossible. Entire families who relied on fishing for generations have been pushed into hunger and displacement.

Fishing, once a lifeline for Gaza’s economy and food supply, has been systematically crushed. Since the genocide began, Israeli forces tightened the naval blockade, restricted fishing zones to near-zero, and turned the coastline into a militarized killing ground, collapsing the sector and deepening Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.
