Gaza Herald – The Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority recorded 26 Israeli attacks targeting Palestinian memorials and national symbols from the start of the current year until Tuesday. Seven of these incidents occurred on that specific day, marking an escalation concentrated primarily in Nablus governorate and extending to Qalqilya.
The authority stated that targeting memorials and national landmarks is no longer limited to isolated cases of demolition and vandalism. Instead, such acts have become frequent in public squares and entrances to towns, villages, and camps where these monuments form part of the daily presence of Palestinian national memory.
According to the organization, these attacks go beyond physical damage inflicted upon the structures. They strike at symbols associated with martyrs, national history, and the Palestinian struggle experience. This constitutes an attempt to erase their meanings and alter the general landscape to align with the occupation’s narrative.
The repeated targeting of these landmarks across different areas reflects an extension of attacks from land control to an effort to marginalize the historical and national significance they carry. This strategy aims to undermine the connection between Palestinians and their collective memory and identity.
