Gaza Herald – Dozens of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis were flooded on Tuesday after heavy rainfall drenched southern Gaza, worsening the already unbearable conditions for families surviving the ongoing genocide in makeshift camps.
The downpour turned displacement zones into pools of mud and stagnant water, making movement nearly impossible as rain poured into fragile, torn tents and threatened the safety of families and what little belongings they still have. Children and the elderly were hit the hardest amid severe shortages of blankets, winter clothing, and any means of heating as a new storm battered the Strip.
This marks the second major flooding in ten days, after thousands of tents were submerged earlier in November. Families now face extreme cold with no shelter materials, no fuel, and no protection, all while food, water, and medicine remain critically scarce due to Israel’s continued closure of crossings during the declared ceasefire.
Gaza’s Civil Defense warned that its emergency vehicles may soon shut down entirely due to an acute fuel shortage, crippling its ability to reach drowning tents or respond to life-threatening calls. Officials urged international agencies to intervene immediately, warning that without fuel, the next wave of rain could turn the camps into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe.
