Israel’s “Yellow Line” Exposes Expansionist Plans, Experts Warn

Gaza Herald- The so-called yellow line dividing Gaza into east and west has long been presented as a mere boundary. Today, however, it has become a flashpoint for potential escalation, signaling Israel’s intent to seize more territory in the west and undermine the fragile ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli army has publicly documented what it calls the discovery of an eight-barrel rocket launcher platform along the yellow line, allegedly aimed at Israeli territory. Israeli forces, particularly the Kfir Brigade, claim to be “clearing” the area, asserting that they are monitoring and destroying Hamas’ military infrastructure.

In response, Hamas denounced these claims, accusing Israel of daily westward shifts of the yellow line, accompanied by forced displacement of Palestinian families. The movement of this line, Hamas said, directly violates the maps agreed upon in the ceasefire deal, calling on mediators to pressure Israel to halt these violations immediately.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s Government Media Office accused the Israeli army of altering the locations of the yellow markers and expanding its control east of Gaza City.

The yellow line separates the roughly 53% of the Strip under Israeli military presence in the east from areas where Palestinians are allowed freedom of movement in the west. Israel’s actions along this line create a new reality on the ground, complicating any transition to the second phase of the ceasefire and further destabilizing the region.

By manipulating the maps and encroaching westward, Israel is not merely violating an agreement, it is reshaping Gaza’s geography to consolidate control, turning the ceasefire into a precarious and fragile arrangement for the Palestinian population.
