Gaza Herald- The spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense has issued an urgent warning over the escalating humanitarian disaster, as relentless rainfall forces entire families out of their makeshift shelters. He described the situation in the Strip as “dire and catastrophic.”
“We do not possess the necessary resources to respond to the devastation caused by the rainfall,” he stated, adding that even more severe weather systems are expected in the coming days, which will only exacerbate the suffering.
“In just two hours of rainfall, Gaza City was completely flooded,” he reported, highlighting that the population is now enduring conditions even harsher than war. Overcrowded, flimsy tents are unsuitable for habitation, leaving families dangerously exposed to the elements.
The spokesperson urged the international community to take immediate action to provide adequate shelter for Gaza’s population, stressing the urgent need for at least half a million tents to meet minimum humanitarian standards.
“We cannot comprehend the continued delay in allowing these basic necessities into the Strip,” he concluded.
