Hamas Urges Mediators to Enforce Ceasefire and Begin Gaza Reconstruction

Gaza Herald – Hamas has called on mediators to continue their efforts to implement the remaining terms of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the urgent need to rebuild destroyed homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure to meet the population’s basic needs.

In an official statement issued Friday, the movement urged the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions and the immediate launch of reconstruction, alongside the activation of the Community Support Committee, composed of independent figures agreed upon to help manage Gaza’s recovery.

Hamas expressed deep appreciation for the roles of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, which mediated tirelessly over the past two years to end what it described as Israel’s “insane genocidal war” on Gaza. The group said the sincere mediation efforts of these nations were crucial in achieving the latest truce.

The statement also extended thanks to Algeria, South Africa, Russia, China, and Colombia for their strong legal and political backing at the UN and the International Court of Justice, as well as to Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran, and to global solidarity movements and “Freedom Flotilla” campaigns for standing with Gaza against Israel’s atrocities.

Hamas further praised journalists and media outlets for exposing Israel’s war crimes and amplifying Palestinian suffering despite immense pressure, calling for international prosecution of Israeli leaders and the continuation of boycott campaigns to isolate Israel until justice is achieved for the Palestinian people.

The ceasefire, which took effect last Friday, allowed more than half a million displaced Palestinians to return to Gaza City and northern areas after two years of genocidal warfare that killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians and wounded over 170,000 others, mostly women and children, leaving behind famine and total destruction.
