Palestinian Prisoners Released from Israeli Jails Show Signs of Severe Torture and Abuse

Gaza Herald – Human rights experts and Palestinian academics are warning that the prisoners recently released from Israeli jails are in “horrific physical and psychological condition,” after enduring what they describe as systematic torture, beatings, and sexual violence during two years of Israeli detention.

Basil Farraj, a professor at Birzeit University, said that since October 2023, Palestinians have faced “one of the most brutal campaigns of abuse and dehumanization ever seen inside Israeli prisons.”

Farraj emphasized that the release of a few prisoners does not mark an end to the suffering, as thousands remain held under inhumane conditions, deprived of medical care, legal rights, and family visits.

Rights organizations continue to demand international access to Israeli prisons and accountability for what they call state-sanctioned acts of torture against Palestinian detainees, a dark reminder that the cruelty of this ongoing genocide extends far beyond Gaza’s destroyed landscape.
