Israeli Army Expands Ground Offensive in Gaza City

GazaHerald – The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is worsening as Israeli forces intensify their assault on Gaza City, combining heavy bombardment with a ground incursion that has now seen a significant advance into the northeastern sector.

The Israeli army is operating along three main axes. In the northwestern neighborhoods near al-Nasr Street and al-Shati refugee camp, in the south where many residential blocks are reduced to rubble, and in the northeast along al-Jalaa Street, where military vehicles stormed central Gaza City before positioning at the al-Zaharna Junction.

This strategic junction connects the city’s north and south and serves as a lifeline for ambulances and civilian supplies, though it has been heavily damaged by months of war.

Witnesses described how Israeli vehicles abruptly advanced from the west, cutting off roads and consolidating their hold on al-Jalaa Street before partially withdrawing. The movement reflects Israel’s push to occupy key arteries and tighten its grip on the city.

But behind the frontlines, Palestinian civilians are bearing the brunt of the violence. Since dawn on Tuesday, at least 11 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Strip.

A pregnant woman, her husband, and their child were killed in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Yunis when their tent shelter was shelled. In Deir al-Balah, the al-Baz family lost a mother and six children in a single strike on their home. Additional shelling struck the homes of the Arandas family in Nuseirat camp and the al-Qarnawi family in al-Bureij camp, leaving more casualties.

In Gaza City itself, Israeli artillery hit al-Shati refugee camp, killing one Palestinian and injuring others. Civil defense teams say many remain trapped under collapsed buildings but have been unable to reach them due to relentless shelling and air raids.
