Gaza Herald – Israeli warplanes killed Palestinian journalist Abdullah Zuhair Nassar along with several members of his family after striking their home in Gaza yesterday, a building that had already been bombed once before. This second strike reduced what little remained of the house to rubble
Nassar’s killing adds to the staggering toll of journalists targeted in Gaza. More than 250 Palestinian reporters have been killed since October 7, 2023, deliberately hunted, along with their families, in a campaign to silence the voices documenting Gaza’s destruction. These were not “casualties of war,” but pens and cameras turned into enemies by an occupation determined to bury both people and their stories.
Gaza has become the deadliest place in the world for journalists. Since the beginning of Israel’s genocide in October 2023, reporters have been systematically targeted by airstrikes, sniper fire, and drone attacks. Many were killed in their homes with their families, others while wearing press vests in the field.
Entire press institutions and offices have been flattened, erasing archives and silencing broadcasts. Press freedom organizations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, have described the scale of killings as unprecedented in modern history. Yet the killings continue, an unmistakable message that bearing witness in Gaza is itself a death sentence.
