Gaza-Herald- As Israel’s devastating assault on Gaza enters its 23rd month, the testimonies of displaced Palestinians reveal the human cost of a war that has left millions uprooted and stripped of dignity. From Gaza City to al-Mawasi, families describe walking for hours with no food, no shelter, and no destination, abandoned by the international community and forced to endure what they call “a slow death.”
No Safe Place Left
“The situation is very difficult. Most people do not have money to get transportation to move,” said Ahmed Habboush, displaced after Israeli forces threatened renewed strikes on his neighborhood. “This is not a life, we are exhausted. Animals have a better life than us.”
For many, displacement means walking for hours on foot, with no clear destination and no guarantee of safety. Khaled Imad, 62, told Gaza-Herald:
“I’ll continue walking. I don’t know what’s happening. The world doesn’t want to act to save these poor, exhausted, dying people.”
Al-Mawasi: A Humanitarian Zone in Name Only
Thousands have fled toward al-Mawasi, the narrow strip of land Israel declared a “humanitarian safe zone.” But for those arriving, conditions are described as unbearable.
“We arrived here at midnight only to find no water, no toilets, nothing,” said Ahmed Awad, who escaped from northern Gaza under heavy bombardment. “Families are sleeping in the open. The situation is extremely dire.”
Inside the overcrowded camps, displaced Palestinians say their suffering continues to mount. Abedallah Aram described a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in slow motion:
“Inside these tents, people are hungry and malnourished. Winter is approaching, and we urgently need new tents. On top of that, this area cannot handle more displaced families.”
From bombed-out neighborhoods in Gaza City to barren tent camps in al-Mawasi, Palestinians tell Gaza-Herald they feel abandoned, dehumanized, and left to suffer in silence. Their testimonies echo a single plea: that the world recognize their humanity and act before the last remnants of Gaza’s people, homes, and dignity are erased forever.
