UNICEF: Gaza’s Children Face Extreme Trauma, Starvation

Gaza Herald- The United Nations agency for children (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning about the devastating impact of Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, revealing that 1.1 million children are enduring severe psychological trauma alongside escalating hunger and displacement.

Ammar Ammar, UNICEF’s Regional Advocacy and Communications Chief for MENA, said the relentless bombardment has killed and maimed thousands of children and left “psychological scars that may never heal.” He also described the crisis as “not merely a war on children, but the destruction of life itself.”

Malnutrition among Gaza’s children is spiraling. In July alone, over 12,000 children were diagnosed with acute malnutrition, nearly one in four suffering the most life-threatening form. UNICEF highlighted images of emaciated bodies and infants dying from starvation and preventable disease as evidence of “systematic deprivation and collective punishment.”

Children Starved to Death

With schools, hospitals, water networks, and homes destroyed, and aid deliveries blocked by Israel’s siege, Gaza’s children face a daily reality of hunger and forced displacement. Over half a million people are already living in famine-like conditions, many of which could have been prevented.

UNICEF also called for immediate, unhindered humanitarian access, warning that without decisive global action, Gaza’s children will continue to pay the heaviest price.
