Gaza Herald Exclusive : Abducted Gaza Children Share Harrowing Testimonies

Gaza Herald– In a harrowing episode that underscores the harrowing realities of life under siege, ten Palestinian boys all under the age of 18 have been released from Israeli detention after enduring weeks of abuse. The children were abducted by Israeli occupation forces from the Al-Shakhoush area, north of Rafah, near a so-called “humanitarian aid point” that has become infamous as a death trap for desperate civilians.

The ten children were abducted by Israeli forces while waiting in line to receive food and emergency supplies from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the Al-Shakhoush area, north of Rafah. What was meant to be a moment of relief quickly turned into terror, as occupation troops opened fire near the aid distribution point before forcibly detaining several minors. The children had gathered in hopes of finding basic necessities amid the deepening famine  only to be taken from the very place meant to offer them safety and survival.

Among those freed was 17-year-old Omar Nizar Asfour, taken with nine others during an Israeli assault on civilians gathered for food. Eyewitnesses said occupation forces opened fire at the site before detaining several minors at gunpoint and dragging them away.

Torture and Dehumanization

The released children have described shocking conditions in detention. They were subjected to electric shocks, beaten with batons, forced to kneel for hours, and denied sleep. In some cases, grenades were reportedly thrown into their cells. Blindfolded for days, deprived of food and medical care, and stripped of their basic dignity, they recalled being treated “like dogs” with food shoved toward them by boot and humiliation routine.

One survivor, too traumatized to speak on record, told Gaza Herald:“They blindfolded us and made us listen to the screams of others being beaten. We thought we would die there. We forgot what our mothers’ voices sounded like.”

Another said: “We didn’t know if it was day or night. They kept the lights on all the time, and when we closed our eyes, they kicked the doors and shouted to keep us awake.”

A third described the psychological torment:
“They hit us for no reason. They cursed our families. They threw food at us like we were animals. And we were just boys just hungry boys.”

The Names of the Released Children

The ten children released include Emad Mustafa Mohammad Abu Taimah, Mahmoud Issam Mahmoud Abu Hadaid, Moamen Hani Abdulaziz Abu Hajras, Hilal Ibrahim Mansour Al-Bishti, and Karam Hamdi Abdulrahman Hussein.

Also freed were Fares Suleiman Saleh Abu Jazar, Qusai Kaid Tawfiq Al-Zaza, Ahmad Mohammad Fadl Al-Helou, Moath Sayed Salem, and Omar Nizar Asfour.

A Pattern of Systemic Abuse

The Al-Shakhoush incident is not isolated. Human rights groups have documented a long-standing pattern of mistreatment of Palestinian detainees especially children by Israeli forces. What happened in Rafah is part of a wider strategy of collective punishment, carried out with impunity under the cover of “security operations.”

As outrage spreads, rights advocates are calling for immediate international investigations and accountability for what they describe as crimes against children. Yet for many in Gaza, this latest ordeal only deepens the sense of abandonment.

“We are not asking the world to save us,” one Rafah resident told Gaza Herald. “We are asking them to stop looking away while our children disappear.”

The Gaza Herald team will continue to document these abuses, ensuring that the voices of Gaza’s children silenced behind prison walls and buried beneath rubble are heard across the world.
