Israeli Airstrikes Leave Seven Dead in Gaza, Including Four at School

Gaza Herlad- Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip have continued through the night, with reports confirming two deadly incidents in recent hours.

According to the Palestinian Information Center and Quds News Network, a strike on the Abu Halu School in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least four individuals.

Meanwhile, another Israeli airstrike hit a residential building near the Imam Shafi’i School in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of at least three more and injuries to others.

Human rights organizations and UN agencies have repeatedly condemned Israel’s targeting of schools and shelters in Gaza, many of which have been officially designated by UNRWA as civilian refuge points. The bombing of the Abu Halu School in Bureij is the latest in a disturbing pattern, where schools converted into overcrowded shelters due to the mass displacement of Palestinians are struck despite clear markings and known coordinates.

Critics argue this is not incidental, but part of a broader strategy aimed at making Gaza uninhabitable and forcing further displacement. By targeting sites where displaced families seek safety, Israel appears to be undermining even the most basic guarantees of protection under international humanitarian law. This tactic has been described by observers as part of a “policy of exhaustion,” in which no space in Gaza is allowed to remain safe, further pressuring civilians to flee south or out of Gaza altogether.

These concerns are echoed in a recent report by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which accuses Israel of committing war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination through its systematic attacks on educational, religious, and cultural sites in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The commission found that Israeli forces deliberately targeted educational institutions, often converting them into military bases. It documented multiple cases of schools and universities being burned or demolished in ways that were both deliberate and militarily unnecessary.

Israeli soldiers were recorded mocking Palestinian education in videos that were later disseminated on social media, shortly before the destruction of these facilities. The commission sees these actions as evidence of an intent to cripple Palestinian access to education for future generations.
