Netanyahu Remains Absent from Families of 62 Israeli Soldiers Killed in Gaza

Gaza Herald – Amid the ongoing aggression against Gaza, Haaretz revealed that 62 Israeli soldiers have been killed since early 2025, yet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not met with any of their families. This disregard reflects a lack of concern for soldiers sacrificed in a colonial war and exposes the nature of the Zionist entity—willing to sacrifice its own to sustain its project of killing, displacement, and settlement expansion.

While the occupation continues to commit massacres against Palestinians, its military losses have not prompted any retreat or acknowledgment of failure. Instead, they reveal confusion and persistent denial of the new political and military reality that Palestinian resistance is shaping on the ground.

Notably, Netanyahu has met with families of soldiers killed in previous wars whose remains were recently returned, but he has avoided meeting those of the current conflict’s fallen.

Israeli Contractor Killed in Northern Gaza

In addition to military casualties, Israeli media confirmed the death of a civilian contractor working alongside Israeli forces in northern Gaza. The identity of the contractor and further details remain undisclosed at this time.

Earlier this week, the Israeli army acknowledged the deaths of five soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda battalion and confirmed two additional injuries following a powerful explosion during clashes in northern Gaza. The incident involved a series of explosive devices, reportedly detonated during an ambush by Palestinian Resistance fighters.

Initial reports were vague, but confirmation later followed after speculation circulated in Israeli media.

Conflicting Injury Reports Reveal Broader Casualty Toll

While the army initially cited only two wounded soldiers, subsequent updates from Israeli outlets revised the figures, reporting 14 injured troops. Among them, two soldiers are in critical condition, six sustained moderate injuries, and another six were lightly wounded.

The incident has been described as one of the most “complex” and “serious” security failures since the war began on October 7, 2023.

According to Israeli sources, the deadly confrontation took place in Beit Hanoun, a northern Gaza town that has faced intense Israeli bombardment for months. Five Israeli soldiers — including two officers — were reportedly killed in the ambush. Several of them are said to have burned to death during the attack.

This assault closely resembles a previous operation on June 24, when Palestinian fighters killed seven Israeli soldiers by targeting an armored engineering unit in a similar manner.

Al-Qassam Spokesman: Gaza Is a Battlefield of Attrition

Commenting on the Beit Hanoun ambush, Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for Hamas’s military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, said the operation dealt a “serious blow” to Israel’s military image.

In a statement posted on Telegram, he claimed the resistance fighters launched the attack from ruins the Israeli military had assumed to be uninhabited. “The war of attrition our fighters are waging from north to south Gaza continues to bleed the occupation forces,” he said.

Abu Obeida further warned Netanyahu directly, stating that his decision to keep Israeli forces stationed inside Gaza was “the most foolish” of his wartime choices. He predicted more Israeli casualties and potential future captures of Israeli soldiers.

He concluded with a stark message: “Even if you once extracted your forces from the inferno, you will not succeed again.”
