Gaza Herald – Six recently released Palestinian detainees arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza on Monday, transported by the International Committee of the Red Cross, as growing concerns mount over systematic abuse in Israeli prisons.
Medical sources reported that the freed prisoners were transferred to the hospital for urgent treatment after their release from multiple Israeli detention facilities, with clear signs of deteriorating health due to the harsh conditions of confinement.
The detainees include individuals from Jabalia, Khan Younis, and Gaza City, who had been held in prisons such as Gilboa and Ramla. Their release comes amid increasing reports from Palestinian and international human rights organizations documenting serious violations against Palestinian detainees, particularly those from Gaza.
These violations reportedly include physical and psychological torture, medical neglect, and inhumane treatment. Concerns also persist regarding the fate of hundreds of detainees from Gaza who remain forcibly disappeared, with Israeli authorities refusing to disclose their whereabouts or legal status.
Rights groups stress that the release of a small number of detainees does not indicate any real improvement in prison conditions, but rather exposes part of a broader pattern of ongoing abuses, especially in the absence of effective international oversight.
They have called for independent international investigations into these violations, immediate disclosure of the fate of forcibly disappeared detainees, and accountability for those responsible for torture and mistreatment.
