Gaza Herald- A blind Palestinian mother of seven is fighting to keep her family alive after her husband was killed in an Israeli airstrike, leaving her as the sole provider under devastating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Hala Awad, 48, lost her husband during an Israeli bombardment and now lives with her seven children in a makeshift tent west of Khan Younis, in southern Gaza. With no vision and no steady source of income, she faces overwhelming challenges as she tries to meet her children’s most basic needs.
Since losing both her husband and her home, Awad has been forced into displacement, relying on limited aid and the goodwill of others to survive. Daily life inside the tent is marked by uncertainty, hardship, and constant fear of worsening conditions.
Her struggle has intensified with the arrival of Ramadan, a time when families traditionally gather around shared meals. For Awad, however, the holy month brings additional anxiety, as she struggles to secure enough food and essentials for her children amid widespread shortages and economic collapse across the territory.
Awad’s story reflects the broader reality facing thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza, where many women have been left to head households alone after losing their spouses. With infrastructure destroyed, livelihoods erased, and humanitarian resources stretched thin, survival has become a daily battle for the most vulnerable.
