Gaza Herald- Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital has warned of an imminent shutdown after its second main power generator ceased operating, following the first, which has been out of service for three months due to a sustained lack of essential lubricants and spare parts required for safe and sustainable operation.
The hospital is now facing a critical power crisis, with its two remaining small generators expected to fail within days. This comes amid an already difficult humanitarian situation, placing hundreds of thousands of patients at immediate risk, including those in intensive care units, neonatal wards, operating theaters, and other vital departments, according to the hospital administration.
The disruption threatens to halt essential medical services entirely, raising the prospect of a new and catastrophic health emergency in Gaza.
Hospital officials have urgently called on relevant authorities to repair the main generators and supply the necessary oils and spare parts without delay. They stressed that the protection of healthcare facilities and the guarantee of their continuous operation constitute both a legal and moral obligation that cannot be deferred.
They further warned that any interruption to medical services could have grave consequences, directly endangering patients’ lives and safety. They reiterated that delays in maintenance or the provision of critical supplies could prove catastrophic.
