Gaza Herald – Israel obstructed the launch of a technocratic committee tasked with administering Gaza, despite the reopening of the Rafah crossing last week, according to sources cited by Haaretz. The move raised fresh questions about Israel’s stated support for postwar governance arrangements in the enclave.
The report said the delay was driven primarily by Israel’s refusal to allow committee members to enter Gaza via Egypt. All members of the technocratic body were based in Egypt at the time, awaiting clearance, with no clear timeline on when, or if, Israel would permit their entry, or whether approval would apply to the entire delegation.
The obstruction underscored what sources described as a broader Israeli effort to retain leverage over Gaza’s future administration, even as diplomatic frameworks advanced and border crossings nominally reopened, highlighting the widening gap between declared policy and on-the-ground practice.
