Gaza Herald – The Israeli human rights group B’Tselem reported that the genocide in Gaza has continued unabated, even three months after the ceasefire agreement took effect. The organization said Israeli forces expanded control across the Strip, violating the terms of the agreement.
The group’s position paper highlighted ongoing killings, bombardments, and infrastructure destruction, alongside impediments to humanitarian work, which worsened displacement, hunger, and malnutrition, particularly affecting children and women.
B’Tselem documented that since the ceasefire began, Israeli strikes and live fire killed 422 Palestinians and injured 1,189 others. Between January 4-5 alone, five Palestinians were killed, including a 15-year-old boy shot by an Israeli naval vessel while fishing, a man in an area under Israeli control, and a child killed in a drone strike on a displaced family’s tent.
The organization reported that Israel now controls at least 56% of Gaza, ignoring the so-called “yellow line” that was supposed to mark military withdrawal zones. Israeli forces also demolished hundreds of buildings east of this line, as confirmed by recent satellite imagery.
Compounding the crisis, approximately 7,500 tons of unexploded ordnance remain scattered across Gaza, causing daily injuries to civilians seeking essential resources. Winter storms, collapsed buildings, and damaged infrastructure have turned everyday life into a struggle for survival, especially for children.
Nearly 1.5 million people live in temporary shelters or damaged buildings, with 17 deaths recorded in December due to collapsing structures and three children dying from hypothermia since winter began. At the start of January 2026, Israeli authorities blocked 37 international humanitarian organizations from entering Gaza, cutting off over half of the food aid and 60% of temporary hospital services for vulnerable children.
